In July 2018, SCYC obtained 21st Century Community Learning Centers grants for M-CHS and SWOS to provide before school, after school, weekend and vacation opportunities for students. The funds are used to provide academic enrichment, including tutorial services to help students  meet state and local student performance standards in core academic subjects such as reading, writing, and mathematics and to offer students an array of additional activities such as positive youth development, service learning, physical fitness, financial literacy, and career programs, that are designed to reinforce and complement the regular academic program of participating students; and offer families of students served by community learning centers opportunities for literacy and related educational development.

Partnership with the Montezuma Inspire Coalition provided field trips to Fozzie’s Farm for Ag students at MCHS. The Cortez Adult Education Center expanded their classes to include day programs during the summer for parents of MCHS and SWOS students.

The grants are for three years, with the expectation of renewal for an additional two years as benchmarks are met.

At MCHS, the 21CCLC grant provided incoming Freshman with a two-day Freshman Orientation and is currently supporting tutoring, structured study hall, Indigenous Club, Adulting 101, and Youth Leadership Council after school, Morning Movement Education before school, Credit Recovery Saturdays, and college exploration field trips.

462 M-CHS students and 76 M-CMS students participated in 21CCLC activities during the 2018-2019 school year.

95 Freshmen attended Freshman Academy before the 2018-2019 school year.

207 students received tutoring services.

65 students participated in movement education.

160 students attended summer activities.
