Gear Lending Library Assistant

School Community Youth Collaborative has been serving the youth of Montezuma County since 1999. Our mission is to support youth on their path to healthy adulthood, and our vision is that all youth are valued and thriving members of our community. Overview

The SCYC Gear Lending Library Assistant will support the management of the GLL. This position will support the marketing, continued development, and mobilization of the GLL. The GLL has been a part of SCYC since 2019 and is looking to expand its reach during our most busy time, the summer. This position will support the mobilization of the GLL by traveling to neighboring towns (Towaoc, Dolores) once a week for gear check-outs/check-ins. Additionally, this position will support gear check-out/check-ins twice weekly in Cortez.

Availability Requirements

  • Available Monday-Friday 12:00 pm-8:00 pm, with some weekends

  • An ideal candidate will work  (20 hrs) part-time May-September; however, for the right person, the position could be for more hours a week for a shorter period (i.e., 2-3 months full-time).

Specific Responsibilities

  • Support the GLL Director with gear check-ins/check-outs; Manage reservations through our online system and contact individuals directly about their reservations.

  • Promote the GLL through marketing, flyers, and word of mouth within the community

  • Attend local events to promote the GLL including local farmers markets in Dolores, and Towaoc

Leadership

  • Act as a representative of SCYC programs and promote positive youth development for youth in Montezuma County 

  • Mange GLL reservations throughout the summer months

  • Develop a strong plan to marketing plan for the GLL in order to promote the program to the entire community. This could include posts to social media, flyers, word of mouth, attendance at local events

  • Connect with local businesses and organizations in order to promote the GLL 

  • Support the maintenance of GLL gear that has experienced wear and tear, or has broken 

  • Clean/maintain gear that is returned from individuals 

  • Keep track of gear inventory and maintain an organized gear shed

Financial Responsibilities 

  • Follow SCYC policies around credit card use when purchasing program supplies and record expenses as directed by SCYC policies; return receipts in a complete and timely manner

  • Maintain organizational and personal integrity surrounding money use and budgeting 

​

Teamwork 

  • Act as a team member to SCYC staff and collaborate with other programs as needed 

  • Communicate with GLL Director on a regular basis regarding programming details

  • Other tasks as assigned

 

Care/Passion for Young People 

  • Act as part of a team that supports young people becoming leaders in their community

  • Model Positive Youth Development, Trauma Informed Care and the creation of safe spaces for youth 

  • Keep abreast of current literature on youth development 

  • Include a youth voice in organizational decisions when appropriate

 

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Passion and excitement for working with youth 

  • The desire to live and work in Montezuma County during the summer months

  • Outdoor/Experiential education experience preferred  

  • Basic computer skills and knowledge 

  • Record and submit time worked on timesheets in a timely manner

Pay Rate:

$20 per hour
